Tibet Visa and Travel Permit Information:
All non-Chinese and Tibetan foreigners must get a Tibet visa and travel permit to enter Tibet. These permits are issued by the Tibet Tourism Bureau and can only be obtained through registered travel agencies like Nepal Motorbike Tour. Tibet permits come in paper form, separate from your passport. (Note: It's essential to understand that Tibet travel permits and visas are different. You cannot enter Tibet with just a Chinese visa. Make sure to obtain a Tibet travel permit before your trip.)
Required Documents for Tibet Visa/Permit:
Clear scanned copy of your passport valid for at least six months. Copy of your Chinese visa via email (for travelers entering Tibet from mainland China). Fill out a form at the Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu with your latest passport-sized photo (arranged by Nepal Motorbike Tour for travelers from Nepal). The Tibet Tourism Bureau usually takes about one week to approve your travel permit, but it may take longer. Apply for your Tibet permit at least 15 days in advance to be safe. Diplomats, journalists, professional photographers, and government officials cannot get their Tibet travel permits through regular travel agencies. They must arrange it through the foreign affairs department.
